Due to concerns over COVID-19, the 264th Annual Celebration event in honor of Saint Andrew's Day Friday, November 20th will be virtual. This year's virtual celebration is an opportunity
to introduce the Society to family members and friends who have not had the chance to attend in previous years. All are encouraged to wear Highland Evening Dress or Formal Attire.
Global Scot, Helen E.R. Sayles CBE, will be presented with the Mark Twain Award created to honor those who have had a positive impact on the Scots community around the globe. Prior to her retirement in 2012, Ms. Sayles was
senior vice president and manager of human resources, real estate and administration for Liberty Mutual Group*. She began with Liberty Mutual in the information systems area, and her career encompassed a broad range of functions and
responsibilities: Ms. Sayles was responsible for human resources policy development and implementation, including compensation, benefits, employee relations, human resource development, employment, safety and health and HR service
As a long-time advocate of performance measurement and rigorous, business linked human resource processes, Ms. Sayles implemented such initiatives as strategy-driven metrics, technology enabled performance-driven
salary planning processes and a competency-based framework for ensuring effective selection, development and performance management. Ms. Sayles' responsibilities also include development and implementation of the company's real estate
and administrative services strategy.
In 2011, Helen was presented with the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts’ Leading Women Award. In 2013, Helen was asked to preside as Honorary Clan Chieftain for the 38th Annual New Hampshire Highland Games and Festival at Loon
Mountain, New Hampshire, the largest and most diverse Scottish cultural festival in the Northeast. Helen is also a Global Scot and was inducted into the Global Scot Hall of Fame in Glasgow in 2011.
She served as Chairman of The National Trust for Scotland Foundation USA from 2014 to 2018; and is currently President of The Saltire Foundation, USA; and Director of Entrepreneurial Scotland. In her 2014 Birthday Honours List, Her Majesty,
The Queen, awarded Helen the honour of CBE in recognition for services to the development of Scottish companies. Helen lives in Concord, Massachusetts with her husband, DuWayne. She was born and educated in Scotland and received her B.S.
in Business from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh.
