|NYC Tartan Week|
National Tartan Day is a US observance commemorating the Scottish Declaration of Independence, from which the American Declaration of Independence was modeled. Nearly half the signers of the American Declaration of Independence were of Scottish descent, three of whom were members of the Saint Andrew's Society of the State of New York. In recognition of the achievements of Americans of Scottish descent, the US Senate passed a resolution designating April 6th as National Tartan Day.
The National Tartan Day Parade is on April 4th this year. In the early beginnings, two pipe bands and a small but enthusiastic group of Scots marched from the British Consulate to the UN. Over 20 years later, the parade has grown to include hundreds of pipers, thousands of marchers and many more thousands cheering from the sidelines. March with the NY Scots® on parade day.
